Wells Fargo Branch Workers in Wallingford File for Union Election with Communications Workers of America
(Wallingford, Conn.) – Wells Fargo workers at the bank’s North Colony branch in Wallingford, Conn., have filed for a union election to become members of the Communications Workers of America (CWA). They are seeking to join over 200 workers across the country who have already won union elections across 29 different branches, as well as the Conduct Management Intake Department within the bank.
Wells Fargo Workers United-CWA (WFWU-CWA) is the first worker organizing effort at a major bank in the United States in over 50 years. In their organizing campaign, Wells Fargo workers are showing the banking industry and the entire country what is possible when workers come together and use their collective voice.
“We are coming together to form a union because we ultimately want dignity and respect for ourselves and the work we do. If we are to be regarded as financial professionals, then we should be treated and compensated as such,” said Max Saldanha, WFWU-CWA Local 1298 member and Associate Personal Banker at the North Colony branch. “We shouldn’t have to be afraid to come to work and hope only that we’re not let go. We’re coming together so that we can be a stronger team and advocate for our rights and achieve what we deserve.”
Six North Colony branch workers sent a letter to Wells Fargo CEO Charlie Scharf and management earlier this month, informing them of the union election filing and expressing concerns with understaffing, a lack of compensation, and the importance of having a collective voice. A union election vote will be held sometime in January 2026.
“With the culture of fear and disrespect, arbitrary and vague growth metrics, inadequate compensation, and insufficient staffing, we have decided that we need and deserve a collective voice so that we can effectively advocate for ourselves as a group,” the letter reads. “We hope that you will take this opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to improving Wells Fargo from the inside out by respecting our right to form a union without interference.”

About Wells Fargo Workers United-CWA
Wells Fargo Workers United-CWA is the only public effort by Wells Fargo employees to organize a union. With a union, workers are seeking to address chronic understaffing, unfair sales pressure, and unreasonable workloads to improve their working conditions and allow them to better support Wells Fargo customers. Since the union’s launch in 2021, Wells Fargo workers across virtually every state Wells Fargo operates in are organizing with WFWU-CWA, collaborating with shareholders, members of Congress, and officials at the Federal Reserve and the Department of Treasury to drive accountability at the country’s fourth largest bank. WFWU-CWA grew out of CWA’s longstanding Committee for Better Banks initiative.
