Wells Fargo faces labor board complaint over union vote

Wells Fargo should fess up to its unlawful conduct now by recognizing the union at the Atwater, California branch. Last week, Region 32 of the National Labor Relations Board issued a formal Complaint accusing Wells Fargo of illegally coercing workers to prevent fair unionization votes at their union election last January. The Atwater, California branch is located at 243 East Bellevue Road, Suite A4.

"I organized a union at my branch because I want to better help my customers and I love my community that we serve. The NLRB’s findings prove what we’ve been saying all along—Wells Fargo used illegal scare tactics to silence us from fighting for a union election and a seat at the table. This bank has a long history of trying to intimidate workers, but I hope that this complaint sends a message to all Wells Fargo branches that when we fight against union-busting, we win. It’s time for Wells Fargo to own up to its wrongdoing.” said Salvador Sotelo Jr., an Associate Banker at Wells Fargo’s Atwater branch.

So far, Wells Fargo refuses to comply with the Complaint, instead it plans to force a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge on October 21.

Here's a key section from the NLRB Complaint that seeks to Wells Fargo to recognize the union:

"FURTHER, as part of the remedy for the unfair labor practices alleged above in paragraphs 6, 7, and 8, and in addition to the Board’s standard remedies, the Acting General Counsel seeks an Order requiring that Respondent recognize the Union as the exclusive collective bargaining representative of the Unit and bargain collectively with the Union as the exclusive representative of the Unit, starting from December 8, 2023, and continuing until the parties reach an agreement or a good faith impasse, pursuant to Cemex Construction Materials Pacific, LLC, 372 NLRB No. 130 (2023), and if agreement is reached, to embody it in writing. The Acting General Counsel further seeks all other relief that is just and proper to remedy the unfair labor practices alleged.

"We shouldn’t have to check all our rights when we go to work. That’s why workers form unions - so that they can have a voice and have control over their lives."

JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon Blasts Remote Work

Question of the Week:

Question: Is Wells Fargo going to announce a mandatory 5-day Return to Office policy like JPMorgan?

Answer: Charlie Scharf is probably waiting for the right moment to announce this policy. He was a protege of Jamie Dimon afterall so it's likely that he'll follow in Dimon's footsteps. But we can do something about it and take inspiration from what JPMorgan Chase employees are doing. Let's continue organizing to have a voice and a say over our working conditions.
